In June 1941, 15-year old Lina, along with her younger brother and mother, are forced out of their home by the Soviet secret police and deported to a labor camp in Siberia. In order to keep hope alive, Lina creates beautiful pictures as a means of communicating with her father, who is imprisoned in another camp. In spite of her horrific experiences, Lina’s struggle to maintain a sense of her humanity is moving and powerful.
