Irena Sendler, a young Polish social worker, used disguises, falsified documents and a network of helpers to help rescue almost 2000 children from the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II.  Living in post-war Poland, she said nothing about her rescue efforts, but was branded as a traitor by the Communist government.  With the collapse of Communism in 1989, the children she rescued, now adults, paid tribute to her courage and humanity in the face of incredible danger and personal risk.
