Whelan, Gloria. Small Acts of Amazing Courage. 2011 (April). Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers,  $15.99 (9781442409316). Gr. 4-7. [mpn]

In this remarkable India-based tale, the author introduces readers to Rosalind, a British teenager, even though she has never been to the British Isles. Her father has been away in WWI and she has been enjoying freedom in her southeast Indian town.  Curious by nature about the political and cultural differences of her surroundings, she finds herself participating in a non-violent protest. Her father send her to England and she meets others who need her help. Throughout this story about internal struggles, compassion, and political differences, Rosalind is a strong heroine for intermediate level readers.
