Nomination: Sacajawea of the Shoshone

Yim, Natasha. Sacajawea of the Shoshone. Illustrated Albert Nguyen. 2012. 32pp . Goose Bottom Books, $18.95. (978-0-9845098-6-7). Gr. 3-7 [kdm]

This volume in “The Thinking Girl’s Treasury of Real Princesses” details the strength and determination of Sacajawea.  She survived being kidnapped and enslaved by the Hidatsa as well as a forced marriage to a much older Frenchman.  Her abilities with language and her knowledge of the Northwest led to her being chosen to help guide the Lewis and Clark expedition, an journey that may have been lost but for Sacajawea’s knowledge and fortitude.
